Have You Ever Wanted To Just GIVE UP!
I want to quote Thomas Edison. Here is what it said:
“Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.”
Giving up. It can be defined in two ways. One is positive, the other is negative. First the positive:
Giving up – removing those things in your life that are keeping you from being all you can be – i.e. you are giving up certain types of foods or unhealthy habits.
Now the negative definition:
Giving up – you are quitting because you feel defeated and you feel you are wasting your time, and that you’ll never succeed – i.e. you are giving up and quitting college.
Do you see the difference?
Although I believe Thomas Edison was referring to the second definition, since he tried 1,000 times to create the light bulb… in which I’m glad he didn’t quit at 999!
I’m writing today to encourage you.
Many of us make New Year’s resolutions – many times to give up hangups and habits that are destructive to our health, happiness, and success.
If that’s you… stay the course! Don’t give up what you gave up!
But, for many of us, we find ourselves at the crossroads of indecision once again. Do I give up, or do I press on?
That is only something you can answer. However, I believe most of us are our own worst enemies of starting and stopping and starting and stopping.
Maybe, just maybe, it’s time to change that cycle and not give up.
I want to encourage you to renew your commitment to yourself, your family, your friends, and your future.
Press on. Commit yourself to the next 13 weeks. Make a covenant that giving up will not be an option during these next 13 weeks.
After 13 weeks, re-evaluate. For now, let’s get to the end of 13 weeks.
So, how do I not give up?
Let me give you three suggestions to get you there.
1) Plan a series of rewards. Reward yourself each week with some small token – a meal out, a Starbucks, a movie, etc. It’s just a way of saying to yourself, “Good job!”
Then, plan a bigger reward you give yourself at the end of the 13 weeks – that is as long as you did work your business. How about new clothes a trip to the theatre.
2) Make a covenant with a partner. For you, it could be a wife/husband, friend, your upline, or anyone. But, you will need a partner, because I guarantee the “quitting bug” will return and you’re going to need that partner.
3) Schedule your time. I cannot emphasize this enough. Set your hours or it will never get done.
My greatest times of personal achievement have come when I worked regularly scheduled times. I wasn’t haphazard. I knew what and when I was expected to do something, and I did it.
Wow! All this from a simple Thomas Edison quote.
